French

I have sent home the calendars for the Canadian City presentations. I have suggested to the students that they place this paper in a safe place (ex.refrigerator, bulletin board, etc.).

We are learning lots about our country. At the moment we are studying the Great Lakes, Capital cities, various important lakes and rivers in Canada. We will be looking at the different geographical regions in the next couple of weeks.

Reminder that homework duotangs and library books are due on THURSDAY.

There will be a dictée for the French words on Thursday as well.

Please continue to stress the importance of reading at home in both languages to develop fluency, expression and comprehension.

Thank you,
Mlle Tessier :-)

Reminder

A reminder that English Scholastic orders are due by Friday November 30.

English Writing:

This past week students are writing poems about themselves following a specific pattern. Reviewing the writing process stages is natural throughout this project, and I have observed some impressive skills displayed by my awesome authors! I am writing one of my own at the same time. I am a writer, too! We are all writers. J

This week we will publish our good copies in the computer lab.

Finally, we will print these insights into our personalities and display them in the hallway outside our classroom.

Reading:

We will continue to examine, compare and contrast the character traits (ambitious, rude, energetic, determined, brave, hard-working, etc.) possessed by various characters in a book.

Author’s reveal characters and their traits in a number of different ways:

  1. Through what a character says and the way he or she says it.

  2. Through what others say about him or her.

  3. Through his or her actions.

  4. Through what he or she feels or thinks.

While reading at home, ask your child –

“What character traits does this person (character) show?” and “What have they done/said to prove they possess this character trait?”

Remembrance Day Ceremony- This Friday, November 9th our school will be having a remembrance day ceremony in the gymnasium starting at 11:45 a.m. I would kindly ask for students to wear something red. Poppies will be handed out in the morning. Donations are welcomed.

Progress Reports- Will be sent home this Thursday, November 8th.

You will find an interview form in the envelope. Please make sure to sign and return the interview form ASAP.

Animal Cards- I am almost done marking this project. I apologuze for the delay. I am hoping to send them hope later this week.

Dioramas- Most students have finished making their dioramas. They are still working on the written portion of the project as well as preparing  themselves to present this project to the class. Just a reminder that this project is to be completed entirely at school :-)

The dioramas will be on display in the hallway outside our class until November 16th. Parents if you wouldn't mind taking your child's diorama hope after interviews that would be greatly appreciated.

Physical Education- I will be sending home a rubric for your child's progress during our Basketball unit. Please read over it with your child, sign it and return it to school. Thank you!

Our next unit will be volleyball.

My Life in a Bag English Presentations:

This week I shared my bag with the class and they learned some things about me!
Now it's their turn to find items that represent themselves and prepare for their oral presentation. The information below was sent home in paper form with all students on Tuesday.

The calendar below shows which day each child is presenting.
Have fun finding your items!

My Life in a Bag!

For this oral presentation, you will choose five objects that represent you. Choose objects that are familiar to you because you will explain why each object represents you. You must bring these items to school on the day of the presentation and show us each object, one at a time, explaining the reasoning of your choice.
You will need to speak with appropriate volume to allow the whole class to hear you. The presentation must be spontaneous in the sense that you will not read it. Do not forget to keep eye contact with the class during the presentation. The presentation will last about 3 to 5 minutes.
Here's what to remember:

_____ Choose 5 items

_____ Bring 5 items or illustrations if the item is not available

_____ Prepare a draft text (in which order will you present your items, introduction, conclusion, words
            to describe, etc.)

_____ Practice your presentation (approximately 3-5 minutes in length)

_____ Bring objects to school on your day to present – remember a bag!
